What are Lifting Singlets?

Whether you're on the platform for the first time, or you're an advanced powerlifter striving to hit new personal records, singlets are like a second skin, crafted to support the performance.

What about the types of lifting singlets, there are ones for powerlifting, bodybuilding, weightlifting, and wrestling. Powerlifting requires every piece of clothing to be aligned with specific requirements. While bodybuilding and weightlifting singlets don't have such strict rules.

Still, you can wear the presented WBCM weightlifting compression singlets for any type of weight training, e.g., weightlifting, powerlifting, and bodybuilding sessions. But, if you’re tuned into the competitions, you need to consider the demands, specifically in powerlifting.

This outfit is crucial for overall performance as it fits closely to the body and helps athletes move and perform better and feel comfortable while training or competing.

This apparel is supposed to be tight: tightness helps athletes move freely and safely. Although the majority of suits are tight and form-fitting, still their design may vary depending on the sport. For instance, wrestling singlets come with a high cut on the legs and straps over the shoulders to keep them in place during tough and intense workouts.

While powerlifting singlets have a lower cut on the legs and are made of more durable material to withstand vigorous lifting sessions. Also, wrestling singlets are more flexible as they should help athletes move quickly and easily, while powerlifters need solid, supportive singlets meaning they're more substantial.

Considering the IWF regulations, athletes must wear only one weightlifting suit that meets the following criteria: it must be one piece, collarless, may be of any color, must not cover the elbows and the knees. Also, a singlet can be decorated with the athlete’s name or nickname, club name, Member Federation / NOC, or national emblem.

Concerning the IPF standards, singlet's material must be a single thickness; should have legs between 3 cm and 15 cm from the crutch down the inside of the leg; only supportive lifting singlets from approved manufacturers listed by the IPF are allowed; any changes to the singlet that exceed the established measurements are prohibited; etc.

5 Benefits of Using Lifting Singlets

This lifting gear provides a decent mix of versatility, form-fitting flexible design, comfort, and functionality. The sleek form has no excess material, providing athletes with unrestricted movements, and bringing a full range of motion that is crucial for performing complex and demanding lifts.

1. Enhanced functionality

Since powerlifting is a physically demanding discipline requiring high mobility and stability, singlets provide a full range of motion, enabling athletes to perform the squat, bench press, and deadlift with optimal technique. Its tight fit supports the core muscles, which is important for maintaining proper form during the competition.

2. Promoting safety

Gym singlets protect lifters from getting injured due to their tight fit as they keep an athlete's body in the correct position, by reducing injury risk. Olympic weightlifting singlets also help to protect the lifter's skin from friction and abrasion of the barbell or other equipment.

3. Reducing friction

Lifting singlets limit external material interference with the bar path, so an athlete experiences a smoother lift performance.

4. Muscle compression

The snug fit provides gentle pressure to specific muscle groups, by improving blood flow and oxygen delivery. It helps to reduce muscle fatigue during prolonged training sessions, so athletes can preserve their peak performance.

5. Temperature regulation

Being made from breathable and moisture-absorbing material, lifting singlets facilitate heat and moisture dissipation. Thus, it prevents overheating, brings comfort, and ensures concentration during tough lifting sessions.

What to look for in lifting singlets?

When choosing a singlet, an athlete should consider the material quality, cut, size, general fit, and how it will withstand the conditions of their sport. Whether you're looking for the standard gym or Olympic lifting singlets to step onto the wrestling mat or the weightlifting platform, it's vital to pick up a singlet that fits well your training routine or competition preparation. Properly chosen singlets will enhance overall performance and maintain proper psychological effect, by boosting confidence.

Fit

One of the most important features you should consider is singlet fit: it should be snug and tight, the shoulder straps should always stay on the shoulders. The singlet legs have to be longer than 3 cm, but shorter than 25 cm.

They should not bunch up around the hips and should be tighter rather than looser around the thighs.

Material

The fabric should be of the same thickness throughout the singlets. It cannot support any part of lifting performance. Generally, powerlifting singlets are made from a blend of polyester and spandex that is moisture-wicking, stretchy, and durable. It will help to keep you cool and comfortable.

Overall suit

In powerlifting competitions, lifters have to wear a t-shirt underneath their singlets. It's allowed to pick one or two blank shirts that are part of the approved brand. It's also possible to wear briefs underneath the singlet. Women are allowed to wear a sports bra underneath their t-shirts.
