Several major world tournaments took place in August. The results of some were predictable, the other fans were in for surprises. And Oleksii Novikov brought a gift weighing 549 kg to the fans - a world record in the deadlift.
CrossFit Games: offline and online results
The NOBULL CrossFit Games 2022 came to a close on August 7. As for the winners, there was no intrigue this season - it remained unclear who would be crowned champion until last night's final! But what happened?
Australian Tia-Clair Toomey became the women's champion for the sixth time in a row. Among men, American Justin Medeiros became the best. Before him, only Rich Froning and Met Frazier had won two seasons in a row. In the team standings, the American CrossFit Mayhem Freedom team, as expected, became the leader. Sixth time in a row.
A surprise awaited fans in the women's division. On the fifth day of the competition, the Hungarian athlete Laura Horvath was the leader in all events. Thanks to such an incredible breakthrough, she rose from the ninth position to third in a day and became the bronze medalist of the games.

Athletes competed not only on the competition stage. The CrossFit Games team tracked the viewership of athletes, by measuring the growth of followers on their Instagram accounts. On the Internet, completely different athletes turned out to be champions.
Women are leading the way in the popularity race. Dani Speegle (USA) has the newest subscribers. For a week, 37,805 people signed up for her page. The second and third places were taken by the medalists of the competition - Mal O'Brien (34.713) and Tia-Clair Toomey (31.385). In percentage terms, the largest increase in subscribers was with the Italian Elisa Fuliano. After the games, the number of fans on her page increased by 34% - a total of more than 12,000 people.
Ukrainian athletes shocked the Strongmen's World
In early August, for the first time in the history of the Giants Live tournament series, two Ukrainian athletes stood on the podium. At The Giants Live Open at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff (Great Britain), Pavlo Nakonechny won a gold medal, and Oleksii Novikov won a bronze medal. Athletes scored 49 and 39.5 points respectively. Second place went to Canadian Mitchell Hooper with 47.5 points.
And a week later in Colorado (USA) at the Shaw Classic 2002, Oleksii Novikov surprised his fans with a new world record in Hummer Tire deadlift. He lifted eight huge tires on a special bar with a total weight of 549 kg. The previous record was 545 kg, which was lifted by Canadian Jean-Francois Caron.
In the overall standings of the tournament, Novikov took fourth place with 79 points, but he managed to write his name in the history of world sports.
Juraev and Nurudinov are the strongest weightlifters at the V Islamic Solidarity Games
From August 9 to 18, the city of Konya (Turkey) hosted the 5th Islamiada, in which more than 4,000 athletes from 55 countries took part. They competed in 24 sports, including weightlifting.
Two Olympic champions from Uzbekistan, Akbar Juraev and Ruslan Nurutdinov, each brought the country three gold medals. Everyone became the best in the snatch, clean and jerk, and the overall standings.
Counting on such a result, the athletes went into different weight categories. Ruslan Nurutdinov competed in the category up to 109 kg and in the first attempt set the record of the Games in the snatch - 177 kg. In the next attempt, he improved it to 187 kg. In the clean and jerk, he finished with 230 kg - only 417 kg in the overall standings.


Akbar Juraev dominated in the weight category over 109 kg. In the snatch, he conquered 200 kg, in the clean and jerk 246 kg. With a total result of 446 kg, he also became the absolute champion of the Games. Interestingly, the two Uzbek champions have a gap of 35 kg for second place.
